Forest and National Parks in Chiang Rai Province Chiang Rai is blessed with an abundance of natural areas. Some are as close as 15 minutes from central Chiang Rai, within biking range.
There are 11 Forest Parks in Chiang Rai that do not charge an entry fee at this time and for the most part are very well looked after. If you go on the weekend, most likely you will be competing with a crowd, especially during the hot season, but if you can manage a visit during the week, you will nearly have the whole place to yourself. They aren't as spectacular as the National Parks and do not expect to see any wildlife but the natural beauty can be fantastic and almost all are worth a visit.
There are only 3 National Parks in Chiang Rai. Foreigners are charged 200 baht while Thai's only have to pay 30. Some parks offer reasonably nice accomodations and all offer a place to camp for a small fee, typically 100 baht.
